Foil Number Balloons Wholesale: Custom Number Mylar Balloons
A number balloon is not an alphabet letter with a curve. The 0, 6, 8, and 9 have enclosed voids that trap pressure. The 4 and 7 have knife-edge interior channels where the film is stressed across a narrow strip. The 1, 2, 3, and 5 look simple but load their joints asymmetrically. If your supplier treats the entire 0-9 range as one tooling job, the digit they cut on the corner-cutting end is the digit that bursts on the shelf.
I. Ten Digits. Three Tooling Tiers. The Cut Corner Is Always on Tier 3.
Number balloons sell in specific pairs and ages. The "3" and "0" for a 30th birthday. The "1" and "8" for an 18th. The "5" and "0" for a 50th anniversary. The age range determines the demand, and demand determines which digits you cannot afford to have fail. But the tooling difficulty does not follow the demand curve — the digits buyers order most are not the digits that are easiest to cut.
Every digit is a different geometry, and the geometry decides the weld requirements. A "1" is a straight column with a foot and a cap. A "6" has an enclosed void that holds pressure on the interior of the loop. A "4" has a triangular interior channel that narrows at the vertex. A "7" has a knife-edge where the horizontal arm meets the vertical stem. These are not stylistic variations on the same shape — they are structurally different products that happen to share a product category.
This is why a factory that quotes a single tooling cost across the entire 0-9 range is quoting a compromise. Either they have cut the hardest digits to a simpler geometry, or they are eating the reject rate on the hard digits and will find a way to pass that cost to you. Below is the tooling tier split we use when quoting a number balloon program.
The 4 and 8 are the digits that fail on cheap tooling, and they are also the digits that get ordered in bulk because they pair with the most popular ages and milestones. A 48th birthday. A 40th anniversary. An 80th. The digits that carry the highest commercial demand are the digits that require the most precise tooling. If your supplier's "4" and "8" look like they were cut on the same press as their "1," you are going to eat returns on those SKUs specifically.
II. Digit Mix and Age Pairings: The Stock Plan Is Not One of Each.
A retail number balloon program does not sell "one of each digit." It sells by age and milestone, and the demand curve is not uniform. A container packed with an even split across 0-9 will stock out on 1, 3, 4, 5, and 8, and sit on the 2, 6, 7, and 9. The reason is simple — most purchases are for specific ages and years.
The high-demand digits split into three clusters. The 1 and 0 dominate first birthdays and decade anniversaries. The 3, 4, 5, and 8 dominate the twenty-to-fifty age range, which is the largest buying cohort for milestone birthdays. The 2, 6, 7, and 9 sit in the tail — they sell, but not at the volume that justifies the same container ratio.
We pre-pack number balloon containers on a demand-weighted ratio, not an even split. The 1, 0, 3, 4, 5, and 8 ship at higher counts per container. The 2, 6, 7, and 9 ship lower. Mixed digit sets ship against a stock plan that reflects what actually sells at retail, not what looks even on the packing list.
This is also the reason a 48th or 45th birthday program is different from a general 0-9 program. The "4" and "5" and "8" carry the highest demand in the milestone range and the highest tooling difficulty. A program targeting the 40s needs both the highest volume of those digits and the highest quality of the "4" and "8" tooling. That is not a coincidence — the ages that buy the most are the ages that need the digits that are hardest to make well.
III. Size, Valve, Finish

| Biodegradable Option | PLA+PBAT on request | PLA+PBAT on request | PLA+PBAT on request |
Size selection for number balloons follows the same rule as letter balloons — each size commits you to an inflation medium and a retail use case. The 16-inch is air-fill only and lives on the table or in the cake-topper position. The 32-inch is the party decor and photo backdrop workhorse, floating under helium for 5 to 7 days. The 40-inch is the storefront and stage format for the big milestone reveal. If a program runs all three sizes, we pre-sort the container by size band and digit cluster so the DC does not have to redistribute at receiving.
IV. MOQ, Customization & Freight
In-stock digits: 500 pieces minimum, mixed digits accepted. We pre-pack containers on a demand-weighted ratio — 1, 0, 3, 4, 5, and 8 at the highest count, 2 and 6 at standard, 7 and 9 at the lowest. This is the fast lane for retail programs that need a proven SKU mix.
Custom printed: 2,000 pieces minimum. Custom color matched to brand or event theme, custom font and design printing, Pantone calibration on the print run, custom packaging and retail labeling.
Standard finishes: Gold, silver, rose gold, black, white, red, blue, pink on all three sizes. Self-sealing valve approximately 10cm standard. Biodegradable PLA+PBAT compostable substrate available on request for programs targeting markets with plastic reduction regulation.
Every order ships flat-packed in heavy-gauge anti-static polybags with silica gel desiccant, then nested inside five-layer double-corrugated export cartons rated to ECT-44 for crush resistance in deep-sea freight. Mixed-digit containers are pre-sorted by size band and demand cluster at packout. V. Buyer FAQ: Foil Number Balloons Wholesale
The 4 and 8 are the two digits with dual enclosed zones. The 4 concentrates stress at the triangular interior vertex where the film has to hold across a narrow channel. The 8 loads three simultaneous curves in one continuous seam. Both require 6.0mm dual-track welds with variable-radius chamfers at every interior junction. Cheap factories simplify the tooling on these two digits because they are the hardest to cut, and the reject rate shows up in the returns column. A supplier who quotes a single tooling cost across the whole 0-9 range has cut a corner somewhere, and the 4 and 8 are where it shows.
The 1, 0, 3, 4, 5, and 8 carry the highest demand. The 1 and 0 dominate first birthdays and decade anniversaries. The 3, 4, 5, and 8 dominate the twenty-to-fifty milestone range, which is the largest buying cohort. The 2 and 6 sit in mid demand. The 7 and 9 are tail digits — they sell but not at container-scale volume. We pre-pack number balloon containers on a demand-weighted ratio, not an even split, so the shelf does not stock out on the digits that carry the volume.
No. The 16-inch is air-fill only. Film weight exceeds helium lift at that volume. It is designed for table displays, cake toppers, and small arrangements. Helium floating starts at the 32-inch format, which is the party decor and photo backdrop workhorse. The 40-inch is the storefront and stage format. Each size commits you to a specific inflation medium and a specific retail use case — they are not interchangeable.
Yes. Every number balloon runs a full 24-hour static inflation test in a temperature-monitored chamber before it ships. No sampling, no spot-checking. High-resolution optical cameras track volumetric loss across the full cycle and auto-reject any unit showing pressure drop. Number balloons have higher stress than round balloons at the same size, especially the 4 and 8, so the testing protocol is stricter. Outbound defect rate on number programs holds under 0.15%.
Custom colors matched to your brand or event theme with Pantone calibration. Custom font and design printing — including script, display, and monogram typefaces. Custom packaging and retail labeling. Standard finishes gold, silver, rose gold, black, white, red, blue, and pink are available on all three sizes. Self-sealing valve approximately 10cm standard. Biodegradable PLA+PBAT compostable substrate available on request. MOQ on custom printed is 2,000 pieces.
Mixed containers are pre-sorted by size band and digit demand cluster at packout, so the DC does not have to redistribute at receiving.
